About

The True and Triumphant Story of Flight BA 009 and the 'Jakarta Incident'.

The author was one of the passengers on the fateful flight over Java in June 1982 when a volcano erupted and all the engines surged and failed as the volcanic dust covered the aircraft.

In June 1982 BA flight BA 009, took off on the KL-Perth sector of its London Auckland flight. Over Java the night was suddenly illuminated by intense displays of St. Elmo's fire, smoke filled the cabins and flames surrounded the aircraft. One after another, and for no reason, all the engines surged and failed. With a badly damaged aircraft and virtually no forward vision, the Captain controlled the powerless jumbo jet, the co-pilot sent out Mayday calls and the flight engineer tried repeatedly to re-start the engines.

Includes monochrome images and map.
