About

Signed by Author

A biographical novel by the member of Parliament Norm Jones written in a strong, earthy, witty style. Young Jonesy is the son of a Depression relief worker in Invercargill - he knows what unemployment means. But he walks out on a secure foundry apprenticeship for a succession of odd jobs. Jonesy's descriptions of his own attitudes, abilities, and weaknesses, and of his own adolescent skirmishes with sex, are alarmingly frank. At sixteen, he joins up, and the scene switches to the Desert campaign where he describes his exploits as an under-age soldier, scrapper, rebel and prisoner, and his brush with death.
