About

Account of the submarine HMS J2 during World War 1.

The J-class submarines were seven submarines developed by the Royal Navy prior to the First World War in response to claims that Germany was developing submarines that were fast enough to operate alongside surface fleets. Leading Torpedo-man Tom, or 'Taff', Jones had been among the landing boat crews at Gallipoli aboard HMS London. Jones subsequently served aboard J2 and published this rare account life on board a J-boat was a cramped and dangerous affair.
