About

This is the first account in English of a major mountain range in central New Guinea, and of the wild, mostly unexplored country surrounding it. This formidable range is as long as the Himalayas (1,500 miles), and prior to 1961, the date of the New Zealand expedition, only three attempts had been made to cross the southern jungles and to reach the glaciated snow peaks of Dutch New Guinea. Philip Temple and five friends from New Zealand set off to attack the Carstensz, 16,500 feet.
