This is a wooden framed original hand coloured map of Oceanie engraved by Laguillermie after the French geographer Pierre Levasseur (1828 -1911). This map was for an atlas compiled by Victor Levasseur entitled "Altas National des Departments et des Possessions de la France" and published in Paris by Lemercier circa 1852. The map features intricately engraved vignettes by Richard Bonheur.
Unsure of the type of wooden frame.
Map by Edward Stanford (1827-1904), who was the founder of one of the most prominent geographical publishing houses in the nineteenth century, continued the work of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, revising and then republishing their maps.
Measurements are the outer frame.
